At Bethel Witham, the elders are responsible for the spiritual oversight of the church. Their role is to shepherd the church family with prayer, wisdom and humility, helping to guard the teaching, support pastoral care, and discern God’s direction together.
Eldership at Bethel is not about hierarchy or position. It is about shared responsibility, accountability before God, and serving the church for its health and growth.
The elders work closely with the pastor and leadership teams to ensure the church remains faithful to Scripture, united in purpose, and caring towards one another.
The elders are responsible for:
Spiritual oversight and direction
Prayer and discernment
Supporting pastoral care and wellbeing
Safeguarding biblical teaching and values
Encouraging unity, maturity and discipleship
Day-to-day ministry and preaching are led by the pastor, supported by staff and volunteers, with governance and charity matters overseen by the Church Council.
Our elders come from different backgrounds and professions, but each brings a heart for the church and a commitment to serve faithfully.
